Curly's Datsun Roadster Build

I present to you, the Datsun Roadster project.

i am on the prowl for 240sx front hubs, a new rear set up, and will have some Ka24de action to swap into it... but this is what it will all be going into. basically, i wanted to build a dailable street monster, weekend track slut, and drift bomber all in one. so this could end up rather fun and fairly interesting.

i had a budget build in mind, this keeps me on my feet for deals, excersizing my good friendships, and ability to make due with what i have or what i will build... but not sacrificing anything that i want the car to be.

i recieved the car cut in half, yes, in half... ie two pieces. but after a solid day of work, the car is one complete beauty again and the gaps are better than they were when they left Japan some 40 years ago.

never really been a fan of the solid rear axel so i hope to swap it out for a Jag or 240sx rear sub frame basically, its a personal thing, and the car has one now... i just like to be the odd duck that has to swim up stream to the beat of his own drum.



the plans:
1969 Datsun 1600 Roadster -got
get gaps perfect- done
finish minor rust repair
sand, bondo skin and prep for paint
paint the car
POR15 the bottom/wheel wells

go fast goodies:
Ka24de-got
pistons
rods
bearings
cams
valves
head work
equal length turbo header -got
gt35r twin scroll-got
tial 50mm bov-got
38 or 44mm wastegate
custom exhaust through the factory frame holes

the inside jems:
newly refinished dash- got
newly refinished seats- got
roll bar/monkey cage
stitch weld all seams
brace the car
new carpet
rear self panel- got
some uber OG JDM wheel

rolling stock:
some OG 3 or 4 spoke wheels with big, fat lip. (do have OG Z 4 spokes)
sticky tires

so yeah, basically i plan to build a drivers car from my old japanese little godzilla in sheep's clothing.

so yeah, there ya go. did some more welding on the body as well, have two more areas of rust repair and I should finish up most of my pinch and seem welding here in the semi-near future. still on the hunt for front and rear set ups

pictures are up, I need to get some more pics of all the goodies and some more progress pics. Unfortunately, I ended up doing more national events and more with paintball in general than I had planned this summer...coupled with working a fair amount daily, the Datsun didn't see the love it had deserved.

as seen in the pics, I have the Datsun Motorsports Rollbar, but I wouldn't trust that thing as far as I could throw it. so i was thinking more along these lines:







besides, I need it for the rigidity so I can go slidewayz and around a track with the removable hard top I am making for it (bad weather days of course)

I have two friends doing projects on old roadsters right now. One is doing a VE and the other is doing a 5.0L Mustang engine (boo, hiss). I'll see if I can get pictures from either and post a different thread.

I was just dreaming about a VE powered SP311 a few days ago, I would love to see that build.

did he get that thing from chicago? if so i think i helped him cut that one in half lol
