| I was thinking this up on the way to work the other morning(uh oh).....
Is it possible to build a small PC and run it to a deck with a screen, or even have a screen mounted? I am thinking needing it more for tuning/gauge monitoring. I would like to be able to tune on the fly or be able to data log with out having to plug the laptop in. Just an idea... any computer/car gurus have any input?

| Yes. Basically just install a small monitor in place of the stereo, preferable one with a touch screen for it "truly" to be a carputer, and connect a small PC to the monitor.
I know Jared (pwnoz on MSC) had one that he built into his old 350Z.
I think it would be more effort than worth for using it just for tuning, just get a netbook or a cheap laptop.

| There is a site or company somewhere that was called mini pc. They used to sell complete pcs that were about the size of a cd player and you could just hook a screen up to them. I could be off on the name but they were around at one point. | |

| Back in the day i installed a desktop in an Audi. He had a touch screen monitor that i put in the dash then ran the cables and put the tower in the trunk. He used it for music but you could run any app you wanted.
I would buy a used laptop since it will have a CD drive and all the outputs and inputs you will need. The netbook might not, they are pretty limited.
I also wanted/want to do this.

| I have a laptop, but I want something more permanent. I would also like to run gauges off it as well, i think that may be a long shot, but it is an idea. | |

| I would buy another one and dedicate it to the car. | |

| Well the one I have is pretty much for that reason and I think I will be hard wiring in a converter for it. | |

| Ben we should talk. My best friend that couldn't make it Saturday has a PC in his 240. I've been thinking of doing a FitPC2 in my car for the future with a USB cd rom.
Link to FitPC http://www.fit-pc.com/web/ Oh and these have a variable 12v input right on the back built in!!!
